After dropping the kiddos at the airport, we stopped for breakfast and then headed to Fredericksburg. It was only 7 a.m. when we arrived and still dark. We parked the car in the H.E.B. parking lot and slept (remember we got up at 2 a.m.) until 8 a.m.
Our first stop was Willow City Loop (best place to go at peak season - well except for the traffic jams on this loop). Today, only one car besides ours was on this road and he lived in the area. Told us we shouldn't be there - private road. Fortunately, we had taken the best photos and politely went on our merry way.
Not much happening on 16 from Willow City Loop to Burnet and then 281 to Marble Falls. In Marble Falls, we stopped at the famous Bluebonnet Cafe for lunch and just a tiny bite (right!) of one of their pies. After lunch (at Karen's suggestion) we found a field of bluebonnets!
It's only going to get better! Hope everyone has an opportunity to check them out this year.
It's a funny thing about Bluebonnets......I don't know anyone who doesn't get excited about even seeing just one. I never get tired of looking at these beauties!!! You can never have ENOUGH Bluebonnet Pictures. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I've lived in Austin/Round Rock since '74 and I've seen plenty of bluebonnets/wildflowers, but I get absolutely giddy every year when they start blooming.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters and two of my nieces are coming from Ohio April 9 and we will be spending the 10th & 11th in Fredericksburg. Hope those bluebonnets are still as pretty as the ones in your photographs. Beautiful!! I, too, never get tired of looking at all the wildflowers. Love the mixture of yellow, pink and blue.
ReplyDeleteJoan, I feel like they will still be blooming! Think positive! Jimmye Sue
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your pictures! We will miss the bluebonnets; it will be the first year in many that we've not been in Texas for the bluebonnet blooming season!!
