What's hop-ning?

Here's a simple, yet hop-ning, card using the new stamps created by Karen Lambert for Texana Designs.  I used specialty stamping paper and colored cardstock.  I inked the card with distress ink and love the way the blending tool puts the color down on the specialty stamping paper.  I colored the images with stardust gel pens and a waterbrush, sometimes using a bit of the distress ink to get a closer color to the edges.  The banner is cut out and attached to the white card which is mounted on the same colored cardstock.

Below are several variations where I was trying out the "reverse stamping technique" so I could get the two hoppers looking toward the center of the card.  I found a couple of tutorials online.  There's a video here and Splitcoast stampers has a tutorial here.

The reverse image is lighter like a second generation stamped image.  On the yellow card, I tried going over the little guy with a  marker, but it burred a little.  It can be done, but it takes a little practice too.

Happy New Year's

This card features the new banner stamp and "Have a Texas-size New Year's" stamp.  I also used the Texas Wine Glass (mini).  Patterned paper from my stash and some gold paper - fast, simple, fun!

Here's another variation using the large Texas Outline stamp, the wine glass and the same sentiment.

Then I stepped outta my comfort zone and cut my cling stamp into three individual strips (thanks Megan!) so that I could layer them with the large WORD stacker stamps.

I used with HAPPY and I used it with JOY filled.  The way I used it on the joy card could have been stamped and then cut the words apart.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Faux Patina with Alcohol Inks

Faux Patina
Here's another sample of Day 4 - Alcohol Inks and altering metal.  I took a silver leaf and distressed it just the way Tim instructed.  This one did actually turn our okay, but it was my second piece.  The feather just reminded me so much of the Jam'n bird stamps from Texana Designs that I had to stamp a little bird on there.

I pulled one of my practice tags from Creative Chemistry 101 Spritz and Flick technique and paper pieced the bird.  Finishing touch was adding some stickles and the white of the eye.  I like the background much better now that it has something cute on it!

Thanks for looking.

Brayered Stains
Here is a completed tag from Day 3 using the brayered stains technique for the background.

I used Texana Designs Stamps and embossed with Antiquities Enamalware embossing powder for the coffee pot.  I love how it turned out!!!

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day 5 Metal Leafing

Oh yes... this is much better!
The picture says it all!

Here's a sample of the metal leafing with sticky embossing powder.  I used the Jam'n Barbed Wire Christmas Tree.  I think the background colors need to be darker to show off the gold leafing, but I do like it.  Will probably like it more when I've completed the tag!

Have a fangtastic day!

In preparation for T!m Holtz Creative Chemistry 102, I have been brushing up on techniques taught last year in Creative Chemistry 101.  This is a tag colored with water brush and distress reinkers.  I used the Cact-O-Lantern, Bat - solid and Have a fangtastic day! stamps.  I inked the edge of the tag with a blending brush and distress ink.  Images are stamped in Archival ink.  And stickles adds a bit of sparkle.

Something New...

I have had the honor of working on the Texana Designs Design Team for the past two years.  It has been great fun and the samples made by each of the design team members has been awe inspiring.  In an effort to expand the methods of sharing these great samples, I suggested to Jimmye Sue that the team members be able to post to the Texana Designs blog and she graciously agreed.

Some posts may be simply photos and supplies, other posts may have more detail or direct you to a different website for more details.  The feedback of our readers will allow us to fine tune the way we do this.  If you have a Texana Designs or Jam'n Stamp rubber stamp and would like to see samples we just might be able to post one or point you to one of our other websites.

Your friendship is like a gentle warm breeze.

Here are two ceramic pieces Jillian and I made at Ceramic Lodge.

1) First step was to roll out Armadillo White Clay 1/4" thick
2) Then firmly stamp image into the clay - this takes lots of practice to get it just right, not too light, not to deep, etc.  I need more practice, but this was my first attempt to step outside of my comfort zone and try something different.
3) Trim around the image - for this sample the cut was freehand outlining the stamp of the stamp.  Other samples I used a tool like a cookie cutter to cut shapes.
4) The clay must dry for about a week before the first firing in the kiln.

Ceramic Lodge fired the clay and I returned to paint the bisque.

1) This time I used the writer pens filled with the Mayco glaze, I carefully painted the longhorn, windmill, cactus and ground.  I am not satisfied with the polka dotted longhorn, but I didn't know how to fix that without creating a bigger mess.  I talked Jillian into painting the inside of the words (she's had more practice and a much steadier hand).  Thanks Jill!

2) When finally satisfied, the pieces were left to be dipped in a clear coat and fired a second time.

3)  These were a bit too heavy for a magnet but work well on a small easel.

If you are a stamper and want to try something different just swing by the store.  The store is located at Chisholm Trail directly across from the post office just south of Sam Bass or visit them on facebook .  If you are a ceramic enthusiast and want to try Texas styled stamps in your works of art visit check out Texana Designs or check out their facebook pages.

I'll be posting other samples of my ceramic creations shortly (yes I have more) - Janet

Spring Break and Spring Flowers!

Good morning!
Oh how one appreciates being healthy
when one experiences being not so healthy!
I'm healthy again.
And, just in time for some glorious weather and a
road trip to Novel Approach in Friendswood.

To kick off Spring Break, here's an amazing sample from Design Team Member Jilda Bolton using our Jam'n Iris mini, Jam'n Daffodil mini and Happy Easter!
Now, I haven't always like to cut out or paper-piece my stamped images.  With a little help from Joyce, I learned to have  fun with it.  And then there's Jilda!  She LOVES to cut out for hours at a time.  I believe my eyes would have crossed many times trying to make this card sample.  Jilda even admitted it took a little time, but my eyes are so appreciating her time and effort on this one.  Thanks, Jilda!

Products used:
Texana Designs stamps:  Jam'n mini Iris, Jam'n mini Daffodil and Happy Easter!
